Fun Saturday Outing

It was a rainy day but I managed to get the family to explore an area in southern Kokura City called Sugao. The area is beautiful. We are definitely coming back to explore more of this place especially when the weather is sunny.

Exploring with the Lensbaby Composer lens. My vision for this shot was an eagle’s eye view. What do you think?

Our family will be in the U.S. for the months of August and September. We will be in Virginia most of the time but also doing a 3-week tour of the Midwest. Mikan (Mandarin Orange) Picking

Last Tuesday, Anne and I took the kids to a “mikan” grove. “Mikan” is the Japanese word for mandarin orange. It is also commonly called a “satsuma”. Trivia: Did you know that the towns of Satsuma, Texas, Satsuma, Alabama, Satsuma, Florida and Satsuma, Louisiana were named after this fruit? Mrs. Itoh came along with us and everybody just had a great time as you will soon see. The girls must have eaten at least 20 oranges. You can eat all the oranges you want for a measly 3 bucks! It was a beautiful day for such an outing. Okay, time for the pictures…

Kid’s Swimming Session: Kitakyushu, Japan

Our 3-year old took a crash course on swimming recently and she really had fun. She will probably continue the lessons but this post is not about her. It’s about our neighbor’s son, Fuuta. His mother, a good neighbor friend of ours, has been taking Fuuta to swimming lessons since he was less than a year old. He has made great strides in his swimming and his mom wanted me to document one of his lessons. I had a blast and as you will see, Fuuta is the most adorable little boy around. Mia is glad to be good buds with him. And now, I introduce to you swimming boy wonder….FUUUUUUUUUUTA!!!!

See how advanced Fuuta is! Everybody else is twice his age.

How was my timing on that last one?

Here I was experimenting with the Lensbaby Composer. Using it is harder than I thought but lots of fun! Dad just loves Fuuta. Very proud of his boy.
